Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe counter-service restaurant photos
(1998 - present)
History and photos of Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe counter-service restaurant in Production Central at Universal Studios Florida.
When Universal Studios Florida opened in 1990, the Studio Stars Restaurant offered park guests an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant.
One of the problems for the Studio Stars Restaurant was that it didn't have that wow! factor with the guests. The restaurant was still themed as an ordinary restaurant that you'd find on the backlot at a movie studio. The problem was that Universal Studios Florida was transitioning away from that theme and becoming more of a regular theme park. As the theme park changed towards the big budget rides and away from the movie making experience, it was time to change the Studio Stars Restaurant as well. The Studio Stars Restaurant closed for good in 1998 to make way for a new dining experience.
Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe opened in the summer of 1998. This new counter-service restaurant featured extensive theming dedicated to the classic Universal movie monsters. You'll find homage to such classic films as The Wolfman to Frankenstein to Creature from the Black Lagoon.
The ordering area inside of Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe is themed to a laboratory that would make Dr. Frankenstein proud. The dining rooms throughout the restaurant are themed to the different Universal monsters. Televisions play clips from the classic horror movies of that time period. As a whole, Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe offers a fantastic dining experience with a touch of evil. Fans of Hollywood's classic evil creatures will love eating here.
As of 2013, Universal Studios' Classic Monsters Cafe is one of a few restaurants in Universal Studios Florida that has the Coca-Cola Freestyle drink machines. For a small fee you can purchase (or reactivate if you already own a cup) a souvenir cup that allows you to have free refills all day. A sensor on the bottom of the cup activates the machines. There is a ten-minute waiting period between refills.
